Varnasrama-Dharma is one of the fundamental principles of Hinduism and is that which the structure of hindu society is based upon. Basically, it is serving your duty based upon your stage of life. Your religious practice depends on this. For example, a Brahma student is expected to be poor and celebate, whereas later in life, as a middle-aged man (father/professional) one is expected to be wealthy and sexually active (for reproductive reasons of course!)
